Partnership working with the Fire Service
EEAST continues to build on its previous successful collaboration projects with the regional Fire and Rescue Services.
Across Bedfordshire three stations continued to provide a co-responder service working alongside a dedicated fire and rescue services falls team. The three co-responder teams are based in Potton, Harrold, and Leighton Buzzard and the teams work on an on-call function and are alerted to a call via the EEAST Ambulance Operations Centre. Teams normally work in pairs and will respond to a wide variety of 999 emergency calls ranging from cardiac arrest calls to patients experiencing stroke symptoms.
Since January 2021 our Fire and Rescue Services support teams have responded to over 590 life threatening calls arriving on average within 9 minutes from activation.
EEAST supported by March and Ramsey community fire stations in Cambridgeshire whose teams respond to local cardiac arrest calls and provide early life saving interventions. EEAST is keen to develop its already strong links with other blue light partners and over the next year will be evaluating key successful pilots undertaken within Bedfordshire and surrounding areas with the view to provide and strengthen collaborative links.
