On 17 July 2024, I was driving to Burnham when I had to pull over my van onto a farm track as I was feeling pains in my chest. I remember little from the day but have pieced together what happened from talking to the bystanders who stopped to help me and the ambulance service.

After dialling 999, I got out of the car and was on all fours as I was struggling to breathe. This is when Paul and Anna-Marie were driving past and thankfully they sensed something was wrong. They turned round the car and came to my aide. They were joined by Reece who stopped to help after seeing Paul and Anna-Marie with me.

Soon after I suffered the first of three cardiac arrests. Anna-Marie, Paul and Reece took it in turns to perform CPR while they waited for the ambulance service to arrive. My family and I are extremely grateful for their actions as I simply would not be here if it wasn’t for them. All three were trained in CPR and this increased my chances of survival.

Thankfully, the East of England Ambulance Service and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were able to stabilise me and take me by road ambulance to Basildon Hospital, where I had a stent inserted in the blocked artery that caused the cardiac arrests and heart attack.

A month after I suffered three cardiac arrests and a heart attack, I was able to start playing cricket again which is amazing. Two months later I met with my some of my lifesavers to thank them in person.
