Restart a Heart 2024
Restart a Heart (RSAH) is an annual initiative led by Resuscitation Council UK which aims to increase the number of people surviving out-of hospital cardiac arrests.
The East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) and its partners held a series of events to teach the public life-saving skills for Restart a Heart Day on Wednesday 16 October 2024.
At the events, the public learned what to do if they encountered a person in cardiac arrest, how to perform CPR, and use a defibrillator.
This should give the public confidence to know what to do in this most time critical of medical emergencies.
A short video on how to do cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- EEAST responds to around 4,000 patients in cardiac arrest each year and good-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation, better known as CPR, greatly increases a patient’s chances of survival.
- Survival rates from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in the UK remain stubbornly low, with fewer than one in 10 people surviving.
- Every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces a person’s chance of survival by 10% which demonstrates the importance of early CPR by members of the public.
