The East of England Ambulance Service’s Cycle Response Unit (CRU) in Norfolk has received a turbo boost with its first e-bike.

The addition of the e-bike has been described as a “real game changer” with response times in Wells-next-the-Sea and surrounding villages predicted to improve significantly.

The purchase of the e-bike has been made possible through the incredible fundraising efforts of the Wells-next-the-Sea community and supported by the East of England Ambulance Service Charity.

The CRU in Wells-next-the-Sea consists of a team of four paramedics who work on a rota and are dispatched to emergency calls just like any ambulance.

Equipped with a full range of life-saving medical equipment in a compact form, the paramedics operate in Wells-next-the-Sea and surrounding villages.

The e-bike is ideally suited to coping with any undulations in the terrain and will enable the paramedic to respond faster and more efficiently - especially in areas that are harder to reach.

Andy Long, Cycle Response Unit paramedic said:

“The e-bike is a real game-changer for the cycle response unit. It will enhance our ability to respond to emergencies in Wells-next-the-Sea and nearby villages, improving response times significantly.

“The extra power from the e-bike also makes it easier to carry our equipment and navigate the hilly landscape much more effectively.” ** Kate Lott, Head of the East of England Ambulance Service Charity, said:**

“We can’t thank Andy, his team, and the Wells-next-the-Sea community enough for coming together to make this happen. In situations where every moment counts, this e-bike could be the difference in getting our lifesavers to the hard-to-reach location in time.”

The East of England Ambulance Service Charity continues to work towards providing resources, above what the NHS can fund, to help save lives and support communities.
