Mark's Journey - Vehicle Technician

Mark Vickers is a vehicle technician who has been with the Trust for five years.

I worked for a contractor for five years before I decided to join the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) when they opened their workshops. I wanted to be able to make a difference when I came to work and give back to the ambulance service who have helped both myself, friends, and family in the past.

In my role as vehicle technician, I am responsible for the repair and maintenance of the frontline vehicles and fleet and all patient lifting equipment in my area. I also deputise running Southend's workshop as the supervisor runs and oversees multiple workshops in the region.

Every day is different, and it fills me with a sense of pride that I can do my bit to keep our vehicles on the road, enabling our frontline staff to continue to save lives. I also enjoy passing on my knowledge and experience to newer members of the team who are both new to the Trust and working on ambulance vehicles.

If you like challenging yourself, come and join us in workshops. We currently have a great training and development scheme, which means at the end of the course you will be recognised professionally. Anyone who has great electrical and mechanical skills, will fit right in.

I am proud to be part of the EEAST team as I know that what I do affects the whole organisation and serves the community. Most importantly, my role helps frontline staff save lives and there is no better feeling.
